Bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranties have taken center stage thanks to the immense popularity of certified pre-owned vehicles. CPO vehicles offer one or both types. What differentiates them? Which one should you get? Don't worry. Our Mansfield, OH Graham Toyota gets this question daily. Here's the quick, easy answer.

Classic and Comprehensive

Often called a 'Comprehensive Warranty,' the bumper-to-bumper warranty covers just about everything but the bumpers. This includes electronics, audio, AC/heat, and even suspension. Since this warranty covers quite a few vital components, it's often significantly shorter in length than, say, a powertrain warranty.

The Powertrain Warranty

As its name suggests, this warranty covers most major powertrain components. These are the parts that create the energy that makes your car go: engine, transmission, related pieces (the differential, for example). This warranty often spans a longer period than the comprehensive warranty. However, it's typical that both types of warranties don't cover wear/tear items:

  • Battery
  • Belts
  • Clutch
  • Fluid

These items are designed to sustain wear and undergo routine replacement owing to wear, so they don't receive coverage.
