Toyota has answered the call for more power in the Corolla with the new 2020 model. You can still get the stalwart 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine bearing 139 horsepower, but the real gem is the new 2.0-liter powertrain with 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Of course, there's also the new hybrid powertrain that allows for up to 53 mpg city.

You'll have a couple of transmission options to choose from as well. While many compact models are ditching their manual transmission options, the new 2020 Corolla keeps its optional stick shift. If you prefer an automatic driving experience, you can opt for the available continuously variable transmission.

Style

Toyota took the Corolla in a new direction when it came to restyle for the 2020 model year. Overall, Toyota's compact sedan has shifted to a sportier, more aggressive look. The most significant change can be seen with the headlamps, which now have larger frames with a sharper angle. The front grille has grown as well to create a thoroughly modern fascia.

Turn to the cabin and you'll see the new looks continue. The seats themselves are larger and more heavily bolstered than the previous generation. A newly redesigned dashboard uses a multi-level design with mixed materials and colors. A center display screen gives access to a wide array of functions. Even the steering wheel is new.

Technology

Car infotainment has become ubiquitous in the auto industry, and consumers have come to expect at least some kind of media interface element in even base models. The Corolla surpasses this basic expectation, going as far as to offer Apple CarPlay compatibility standard across the board. A ream of other built-in applications also come standard. To get the full experience, you can upgrade to an available eight-inch display screen.
